Game Overview
FlashPoint is a 2D puzzle platforming game where nothing is as it seems. Armed with only your flashlight, you must navigate pitch-black rooms while avoiding whatever lurks in the shadows. Be brave, be strong, and illuminate the path ahead.
Developed for the Jam-O-Lantern 2026 game jam.
Design Process
While I mainly worked as the artist and animator for this project, I did have a hand in the design process throughout its week-long development. Initially, the team was divided on what the core mechanic of the game would be, with the team unsure of choosing between this concept, or a 2D side-scroller where parts the level would disappear as soon as it was out of view, staying that way when the player circled back. Given the short deadline, I helped throw together a prototype involving a flashlight, and it gave the team a clear direction on where to go.
As the artist and animator, I was in charge of creating the final look for all of the objects in-game, as well as designing and animating the player character. The process for each asset boiled down to creating three different designs for a given asset, and asking team members which design they would like to see in the final game. Rinse and repeat until everything looks good.
